Microsoft tonight released a new version of its IntelliPoint software — drivers for the company’s line of mice. For the first time, the IntelliPoint software works on Mac OS X. The new version, 2.1.0, is available for download from Microsoft’s Web site.

The 2.2MB driver installs as a new System Preferences pane called “Microsoft Mouse.” It supports the following mice, according to Microsoft:
IntelliPoint 6.1 Mouse Software for Windows IntelliPoint software enables you to customize the unique features of your Microsoft® mouse. You can reassign mouse buttons to perform commands, shortcuts, and application-specific functions. IntelliPoint computer software enables one to personalize the unique options that come with your Microsoft® mouse to fit your demands. With IntelliPoint mouse software, you are able to reassign mouse buttons—including the wheel button—to do commands like Undo or Copy, or run a macro.
The driver itself enables you to program global or application-specific settings for mouse tracking speed; button assignments; and how the scroll wheel functions. You can also disable IntelliPoint features for specifically selected applications too.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.1.2 or higher, 15MB of hard disk space, and, obviously, a compatible Microsoft mouse.
Microsoft IntelliPoint is a freeware software download filed under drivers and made available by Microsoft for Windows.
